Hydroleca drainage medium is expanded clay pellets used in planters to facilitate drainage.

Hydroleca, also known as “expanded clay aggregate” or “expanded clay pellets,” it is a lightweight and porous material that is commonly used in gardening, horticulture, hydroponics, and landscaping. It is created by heating clay to high temperatures, causing it to expand and form round, lightweight pellets with a honeycomb-like structure. The resulting pellets are highly porous and have excellent water retention and drainage properties.

When mixed into soil or potting mixtures, hydroleca can improve drainage and aeration, preventing overwatering and root rot. It also helps to create a more lightweight growing medium.

Placed at the base of a planter, these will increase aeration and encourage drainage. Simply add 25% at the base of your planting space for the well drained soil.

The term “hydroleca” is a brand name that has become synonymous with expanded clay aggregate. It’s worth noting that while hydroleca has various benefits for gardening and horticulture, its use and effectiveness depend on the specific application and the types of plants being grown.
