BBC Gardeners World Live 2019 award winning Garden Designer, Martyn Wilson, approached Europlanters with a design intent for a garden. This was to highlight the impact of leaving a legacy to Macmillan Cancer Support. The garden was to be shown at the NEC Gardeners World Live show in June 2019.
Martyn wanted to use Europlanters GRP planters in bright colours to symbolise gifts, each of which a tree was planted in, to celebrate the idea of leaving a donation in a will to Macmillan. The planters were in a variety of colours and sizes each having a different species of tree planted in them. Martyn created the garden with different heights and sizes of planters to show that no matter how big or small a donation is, it is of critical importance and it makes a difference.
This thought provoking garden also had the famous words of Audrey Hepburn, ‘To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow’ as Martyn felt this very fitting. Martyn explained, ‘The idea of leaving a gift in your will to Macmillan is to think of tomorrow and support the work of the charity into the future.’
Julie Wilkes, Director of Europlanters said, ‘Europlanters were keen to help support this worthy cause, especially as a work colleague had recently needed the support of Macmillan, so it felt really meaningful to be supporting them’.
The garden will create its own legacy by being relocated and replanted into a community at Birmingham Botanical Gardens for people to enjoy into the future.
